I’m sitting here watching the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and thinking about the whole series. Maybe it is my lack of seeing the WHOLE series, but Wes Craven’s New Nightmare kind of throws me off. Not only did Freddy die in the sixth film, but WCNN brings him into the “real world.” They admit that the previous movies were just that but somehow the films brought him to life. Doesn’t that undermine the whole series by proving he never existed at all? And totally throws off the basis for WCNN itself? I may be crazy and taking this whole thing way too far but seriously where is the integrity?
The Nightmare series was like my introduction to horror movies and the two (not including Freddy vs Jason) I have seen are amazing. I just tend to question if WCNN needed to be made or if a better story line could have played out.
As for FvJ, I think it for a bad rap. The two biggest horror movie icons battling it out? What is not to love? I’m Team Freddy all the way, but it was intriguing to see two different worlds’ villians come together and fight for dominance. Plus Freddy had to deal with his consequences as he is the one who woke Jason up and brought him into town. It was a chance to see the humanity side in both characters.
