National Color Day is observed annually on October 22 .   This day was created as a day to learn how colors influence our mood, productivity and behavior in our everyday lives.

Color has long been used to create feelings of coziness or spaciousness. However, how people are affected by different color stimuli varies from person to person.

Color can carry specific meaning.

Different colors are perceived to mean different things.
Following is one rendition of perceived meaning of different colors in the United States.

  • Red:  Excitement – Love – Strength
  • Yellow:  Competence – Happiness
  • Green:  Good Taste – Envy – Relaxation
  • Blue:  Corporate – High Quality
  • Pink: Sophistication – Sincerity
  • Violet/Purple:  Authority – Power
  • Brown:  Ruggedness
  • Black:  Grief – Fear
  •  White: Happiness – Purity.

I'm an author with an associate's in psychology. Interested in a lot of different things, and love controversy. The more controversial the better, but that's not all I'm interested in. Can be a bit confusing at times, but that's normal!

  1. I was born fully sighted but lost the majority of my vision at approximately 18-months-old and am now registered blind although I can see outlines of objects but not details. So, for example I can see the shape of a person but can not recognise who they are. So far as colours go, I love bright colours. I do, however get confused between colours so, for example I get confused between red and orange, although I know when it it is pitch black and put the light on, otherwise I bang into things!
