Book 2 starting off with a WTH moment. Vampires being willed into existence, even with the issues I brought up, I can get behind. But ghosts? Really? When humans die do they go across the veil as ghosts? Would make a little more sense…I may take my statement back.
“Most likely to meet creatures that have been believed in throughout history.” That’s kind of a DUH statement as we learned in book 1, that all creatures beyond the veil were willed into existence by people simply believing in them.
Ok new class tries to answer questions and pin down some of how the Mythers were created and brings up my issue that different iterations of the creatures exist. Which means different ways to get rid of the same type. How do you differentiate between the types and know specifically which type is which? Like with the first book, Dracula wasted the main baddie. Different ways to kill him, but ultimately fire was the only thing that worked. But other mythos involving Dracula are successful using a stake. Using trial and error methods could get them killed and is a bit sloppy. Still think the mythos could be tightened up.
WWII is not shit. I can understand history may not be the character’s thing, but WWII is not shit.
Other kids got to get battle tested somehow. I mean it’s not like the three MC’s were really eased into the situation now were they? Besides, I’m still not sold on ghosts being the big bad villain.
How do we know salt is effective against them? Can’t pull Supernatural rules without the proof. Now I want Dean to bust out the salt shotgun.
So chicken or egg? Which came first, ghosts of dead people or ghosts from beyond the Veil? Are real ghosts what created the ones from beyond the veil? If so that breaks the theory of being willed into existence, but if the opposite were true then what happened to trigger a worldwide spread of ghosts to be believed in? How did they cross the Veil? More questions than answers.
How do we know for a fact that dark covens are typically the ones pulling the Mythers over? Minus the vampires, everything else pulled over were harmless (Leprechauns, a Unicorn, a bat type thing…not much else mentioned). Little kids are more likely to pull this stuff over than a dark coven.
And here’s Annabelle. Did the Author(s?) just throw darts at a board full of horror movies to make the series? A lot to make the second book at least.
Please tell me they didn’t just bring Chucky into this and tried to pass him off as Annabelle…oh wait, they did. 😡
Now Men in Black 2 is involved with the line “let’s make it happen, cap’n.”
Ghostbusters. 1 word, not 2. Was used a couple of times earlier just fine. Typo or someone trying to avoid copyright?
Again continuity error. How do they know something for a fact if this has only been happening for a short time and had no chance to study specimens? Teachers presenting stuff as 100% fact, blows the timeline out of the water. Meaning the government has had more time to deal with the creatures coming over and should be better prepared for combat than the book wants us to believe. I’m talking advanced weaponry already in place and goggles designed to allow trained agents to see them and not have to rely on 18-23 year olds that only 1/3 of the way understand what’s going on.
Is that Charmed I smell? Most spell books are called spell books or a grimoire. Original Charmed is the first and only time I have heard Book of Shadows. I could be wrong, but don’t think so.
Ghost training was funny.
How tall is Frank? How short is Claire? The nudging him in the side thing is not possible unless relatively the same height, but he’s supposed to be super short so…visually it doesn’t work out physically.
I like the Griffin. He asks the same questions I do. And like me, Griffon doesn’t get any answers, nor does he provide any.
You ever climb 5 stories? That is 10 flights of stairs. May not be much of a hike for healthy tall people, but a short legged alcoholic Leprechaun is going to have some issues.
Who called it with the shotguns and rock salt? Me! Problem now is (and has been) do these kids know how to shoot? Crossbows and stake/dart guns are different from rifles. But my money is on them being crack shots without any training in firearms at all.
Love the knives.
Jack has brains! Sometimes. I thought helicopter, he thought copters and shoot at the ghosts and witches. How about using a copter to get to the roof and jump down a rope or something? Land on the roof without going through the ghost infested building like the Wet Bandits from Home Alone. Note after finishing: that scene was lackluster, so much more could have been done with it.
Ok book 2 done. Overall still has issues I can’t overlook. Little more funny this round, but all the characters seem the same except for Marissa and Lance. Those two seem to be twins. Plot holes keep getting bigger and I read the author’s note where he wants anything to be possible in this world, but suspended believe can only go so far.
