Legend Series: #Revealed

Revealed picks up where Innocence leaves off, with Alexa-Jordyn learning she is a Legend and her boyfriend’s dad is a jerk. With the help of hunter friends and her best friend, Alexa-Jordyn searches for ways to control her new powers and track down her biological family. The head hunter intervenes with her plans, forcing the foursome to go on a rescue mission and into hiding after blowing up a building. Sneak Peak:

“You’re a Bean Sidhe?!” J.P. and his dad asked when they came through the door.

“What’s a Bean Shee?” I asked mispronouncing whatever they were saying.

J.P. came and stood next to me, “Dad, I think you should go spend time with Kavanagh before midnight. I need to talk with Alexa-Jordyn.”

“Yeah, what I said earlier just forget it. It was nice meeting you, even if we didn’t actually meet.” His dad tipped his hat to me and put an arm around the guy who still looked shocked.

I nodded back, too afraid to talk. I looked down as I pulled out my phone and started texting my best friend to have her do an internet search. She texted me back way too quickly to have done a search, “call me now!”

“Excuse me, where is the bathroom?” I asked quietly, afraid to leave his side.

J.P. pointed to a door behind his dad. “Through there. It’s OK he won’t touch you.” He walked me to the door, passed his dad and stayed outside of it as I closed it. I also locked it, not thinking that it was useless, because if they wanted to come in they could just break down the door.

I dialed Olivia’s number and waited half a ring, “Alexa-Jordyn? Are you OK? What happened? Was it J.P. you wailed for?”

“Olive, calm down. I’m fine. It wasn’t J.P., it was one of his dad’s thugs. He came at me to hurt me or kill me. But before he could get close enough I let out a loud earth shuddering scream. Then the rest came in talking about a Ban sid-hee or something.”

“It’s Bean Sidhe. I figured you would have picked up some Gaelic by now. It was a wail not a scream and it is normal. Get some rest I will be on the next flight out, my mom has already arranged it. I will explain everything when I get there.”

“Olivia, you don’t have to fly all the way out here just tell me what is wrong with me and how not to do it again.” I started freaking out, maybe there was something really wrong with me.

“No, I have to come and help. I can’t believe your mom sent you off to that island, she should have known better. My mom is all in a tizzy about it and sending you off to live with hunters that really was insane. What was the name of the guy you wailed for?”

“I think it was Kavanagh. Something like that.” I tried to remember. “Am I safe around Julian?”

“As long as his last name isn’t Kavanagh you are fine. I should be in by morning or afternoon. Just take it easy…and stay away from women. If you’re this upset about predicting a man’s death, I would hate to see what you’re like when you start predicting babies.”

“I what? What do you mean predicting babies?” I looked in the mirror to see if anything had changed about me, but nothing looked different about me.  It seemed impossible that everything had changed and yet nothing had.

“Just stay where you are. I’m sure the bloody hunters can care for you.” She said.

“I’m out in the country not at the O’Reilly’s. How did you know they were hunters anyway?”

#ASI: Harper Jameson

Hi Harper, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background? Hi there! I’ve been writing for myself off and on since I was young but, only within the last couple of years did I consider writing a book for mass consumption. I am a stay at home mom and mother of two, and a rather convoluted mixture of heritages. That just makes things more fun, doesn’t it? Yes it does!

Discuss your newest book. “The Spirit” is actually my first book. It’s loosely based on superstitions that permeated my father’s hometown in Appalachian Ohio. It’s very rural, very undeveloped and nearly a ghost town left by a mine out coal industry that happened to occupy land used by Native American tribes that pre-date the European colonization. Add in a family story about a local witch/healer, and I had myself a romance.

BECOMINGRED_BookCover5x8_Cream_370.pdf

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? It actually started out in fan fiction and role play. That’s where the bug really caught me and I left those to pursue my own stories.

What are your current projects? I am actually already writing the sequel to “The Spirit”. “The Holler” is set in the same Appalachian town but in contemporary time. I have plotted The Tribe Novels to run 8 books and a novella, as well as the short story “The Blanket” which have already published. Legends don’t just burn out, it seems. Apparently, wow.

What books have most influenced your life most? There are so many. Probably two by Anne Rice. “Memnoch the Devil” and “Cry to Heaven”.

What inspired you to write your first book? My father, actually. Listening to his homesick stories just made me curious about the people I came from. Once I started digging, I couldn’t stop. Daddy’s are great, aren’t they?

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special? Weshemoneto is a loose interpretation of the Native American Great Spirit figure, prevalent in many Native nations. He appears human but, as guardian of the collective Tribe, he’s imbued with old magic and shares his spirit with the embodiment of the animal aspect of the world as a whole.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? That just because love doesn’t go according to your plan, doesn’t mean it isn’t according to someone else’s.

Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book? Oh wow. I really couldn’t even guess. There are so few widely recognized Native American actors.. Zahn McClarnon maybe?

When did you decide to become a writer? When I realized these ideas about the mountain legends weren’t going to leave me alone.

Why do you write? For the love of it. I love making new worlds and living there for a little while. It’s an escape.

What made you decide to sit down and actually start something? I was pressed by my husband, actually. He’d seen me writing for fun and for others and suggested I actually do something with it.

Do you write full-time or part-time? Part-Time. My kids take up a good amount of my time.

What is the hardest thing about writing? Getting started. Sometimes you wake up and your head is just not in it.

What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book? The research. Most definitely.

What is the easiest thing about writing? When someone answers this question, you’ll have to tell me. Ha! Lol

What book are you reading now? The 3rd Night Huntress book, I believe. I just discovered them.

What is one random thing about you? I am a chronic insomniac with night terrors.

What is your preferred medium of writing? Pen and paper or strictly tablet and computer? Computer. My writing just isn’t fast enough to catch the thoughts as they come out.

What does your writing process look like? It looks a lot like I’m staring into space. But, once I get started, my husband tells me I look like Peanuts’ Schroeder at his piano, leaned in and clacking away without any idea what’s going on around me.

Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)? I argue with my characters. Out loud. I’ll worry about that when they answer. Not to worry you, but they are answering back. 🙂

How important are names to you in your books? Very, actually. Particularly with this series, I spend a lot of time researching names.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing? How easily I let it get away from me. It was actually meant to be just two books, “The Holler” And “The River”. I began doing background notes for the first and those notes spun into “The Spirit”. Even my plotting takes on a life of its own.

Did you make any marketing mistakes or is there anything you would avoid in future? Since this is my first time out, I’ll have to let you know.

What is your favorite motivational phrase? “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.” I’m a huge John Wayne fan. The Duke was a good man.

What is your favorite book and why? That’s like asking me to choose my favorite child. I can’t do it. But “Memnoch the Devil” is WAY up on that list.

Do you have any advice for other writers? Don’t stop. Finish a WIP. Get it out there. Put yourself out there and maybe amazing things will happen.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing? I read, I run and I fangirl obsessively.

From where do you gain your inspiration? Mostly from the past. There was just so much more to life before technology complicated everything.

What would you say are the main advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing against being published or the other way around? I have no way to compare the two, really. But, I much prefer the control of self-publishing. As a friend put it so well earlier, my success or my failure is entirely up to me.

How do you market your books? Social media is really my only avenue.

Why did you choose this route? It wasn’t so much a choice as a given as an independent author.

Would you or do you use a PR agency? Maybe, one day.

Do you have any advice for other authors on how to market their books? Brand yourself and put it on EVERYTHING.

What part of your writing time do you devote to marketing your book? None of it. Only when my goal for the day is done do I market.

What do you do to get book reviews?  Since I’m not there yet, my plan is to politely ask. lol

How successful has your quest for reviews been so far? I have yet to start.

Do you have a strategy for finding reviewers? Does praying count? I believe so.

What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews? As long as they have valid points, they are equally valuable.

Any amusing story about marketing books that happened to you? Not yet but, the day is young.

What’s your views on social media for marketing? Given I’m publishing for the first time through a boutique publisher, it’s indispensable.

Which social network worked best for you? Facebook. Though I use Twitter and Instagram as well but, not as successfully.

Any tips on what to do and what not to do? Just be careful what you post. Keep it to your work or interaction with colleagues, readers and potential readers. Keep it clean. Keep it upbeat and keep your negative opinions to yourself. I learned that the hard way.

Did you do a press release, Goodreads book launch or anything else to promote your work and did it work? I will be doing one. Just wait until June. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR IT!!

Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why? I would like to meet the witch who inspired my heroine. She’s long gone now.

If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why? Interview with a Vampire. It really began a whole new genre, didn’t it? The romanticize villain.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers? Don’t. Give. Up.

How can readers discover more about you and you work? They can follow me on Facebook, twitter, Instagram or check out my website and blog. The links are below.

Legend Series: #Innocence

Innocence follows Alexa-Jordyn on a journey to Ireland as an exchange student in her Senior year of high school. All is well on the flight to the Emerald isle but then her whole world changes, and everything she knows to be true is wrong. The people who raised her are not her real family. Legendary creatures are real and her teacher is one. The family she is staying with are Legend Hunters for a facility that likes to kidnap and test on the Legends. Sneak Peak:

“The seven levels are where you crawled out of. I’ll see you tomorrow Professor.” I turned to walk out, but he grabbed my hand before I could open the office door.

“You will see me tonight. We still need to talk.” His mood suddenly changed from playful to dark and almost sinister.

I looked at him questioningly, “sure. Later.” He kissed my hand, I tugged it away and left.

“Looks like your guy isn’t coming tonight.” Kevin said as my shift ended. “Who was he anyway? He seemed more interested in you to just be a guy who you met on the airplane.”

“Honestly I just met him on the plane. He must be busy tonight or something.” I said clearing my last table for the night. Maybe he saw my point and thought I was right. “I’ll see you guys back at the house.” I put the dishes in the kitchen and started my walk home.

Once I was out of sight of the bar, someone started walking next to me. “Good evening Alexa-Jordyn. I thought it would be better if I didn’t show up as I saw your cousin Mary working tonight.” I looked over at him and J.P. was really trying to hide whom he was, wearing a long black trench coat and an awesome looking fedora. The fedora was black with a black and grey diagonally striped band around the bottom rim and a silver Gothic cross laying on top of the band.

Revealed, Book 2 Legend Series Chapter 1 Teaser

Secrets Revealed
True to his word Julian took me back to Uncle Kevin’s house the next day and dropped Olive off at a hotel. Leaving me alone to unfurl her plan of getting me out of the house; it was simple yet intricate, get me out of their house and hope it shakes them off our trail.
I explained how I wanted I wanted to get out on my own, now that I was engaged. I just wanted to live on my own and get a sense of single living before I got married. They understood, but still wanted me to check in every once in a while, and keep working at the pub.
I told them I would keep in touch with them, but that Julian wants to take care of me. He wants me to focus my attention on my schoolwork instead of working. “I won’t be living with him, he just wants to pay my bills so I don’t have to work.”
They were not too happy about that, and tried to argue that I wouldn’t actually be making it on my own if he was paying my way. I told them that I understood that, but it was the only way he would let me move out on my own, we made a sort of compromise and this was it.
It took a little more persuading but they buckled. Still promising to check in with them, I went upstairs and packed my things. I then called for a cab and joined Olivia at a hotel across town. The next few days were just about Olivia teaching me about the world of Legends and settling into the two-room hotel suite.
On the third of January we enrolled Olive into school. Lunch was the first time I was able to get her together with David and Alistair, to make the proper introductions. “I know I told you that Olivia was Julian’s sister, but she is actually my best friend from back home.”
Alistair was first to ask questions, “Why did you lie? When did you start dating our teacher? How long have you known he is a vampire?”
“What?!? You didn’t tell Kevin did you? I thought you guys cleared him after the other day.” I was shocked they had figured it out, I honestly thought we were safe.
“We haven’t told Kevin, because until now it was just our suspensions.” I could hear the anger creeping into his voice.
I told him how I first met Julian on the plane, and how he brought me back my hoodie. I explained that I’d had only known he was a vampire for a few days, and then I dropped the bombshell, “in the past week I have not only learned that my fiancé is a vampire, but that I am…a Banshee. I can’t pronounce the Irish word for it.”
Neither said anything for a while just let it sink in. Olivia was the first to talk, “I told you they wouldn’t understand. Aren’t you glad I got you out of the hunter’s house?”
“We are OK with a Bean Sidhe, and a Morrigan. You don’t actually harm humans, though I cannot say the same for Kevin. He is a true Legend hunter.” David interjected.
“Who said anything about a Morrigan?” Olivia shrewdly watched David for any sudden movements.
“It’s possible that you are not a Morrigan, but they tend to gravitate towards banshees and really work well together because of…the type of work they do.” Alistair told us.
“OK now that we all know the truth are we cool or are we in danger? Is Julian in danger from you and Kevin?” I gingerly asked.

Christmas Horror Movie

I love Horror movies and I love Christmas! Put the two together and it would be epic right? Especially with the ultimate scary tale of Krampus just sitting there begging for a movie.
Krampus is the evil Santa. He takes bad children away and hangs them in a tree to eat them, or sell them into slavery (pick your origin and pick your version).
So we’ve had movies about evil snowmen, serial killers and killer Christmas trees (Doctor Who, not really Horror but seriously killer Christmas Trees!!). I believe Supernatural did an episode about Krampus as well as American Dad. Now we are getting an actual movie!! I just hope that the movie is as good and scary as we deserve after waiting so long.

The trailer looks promising but at the same time not.
